Happy Chinese New Year

Updated: Feb 19

Another fine day.

Today, I chose to spend some extra time with one of my students, who is four years old. I’ve been tutoring him for a year now, and over the past twelve months he has made wonderful progress in his phonics, reading, speech, language, and communication skills — all of which I intentionally weave into my sessions with younger learners.

As his family celebrates Chinese New Year, I wanted to gift him something a little different: time together beyond our usual lesson, while still creating a meaningful learning experience. I planned a full day, beginning with our phonics, reading, and maths session. Afterwards, we headed to the park and enjoyed a trip to the market with his lovely nanny, before attending a storytelling workshop at our local library.

The workshop was fantastic. Every child went home with a free book, along with the art and crafts they created during the session.

I love London — the fact that there is always something enriching to do, often sponsored by the boroughs, makes it such a special place to learn and grow.

Half term is full of free activities and workshops for children. In our situation, it was the best way t embrace the year of the Horse! Happy Chinese New Year to those who celebrate!
